Working on another sermon, also on The Lord’s Supper. Too chicken to say:

“Sex is to Communion as a wedding is to Baptism”

Lets not go there….

  1. Yeah been there. Say it. Of course I like to make everyone in the room uncomfortable when I preach . Maybe that’s why I can’t get hired 😉

  2. So….I’m probably reading it wrong because you just said it wasn’t so last week….but you saying you need to be baptized before you can have communion?? 🙂

    • No, but I can certainly see how it can be taken like that. I’m talking about intimacy and nourishment. The Lord’s Supper is food for the soul, and there to sustain our life in Christ, confirmed/signaled by our baptism. Traditionally baptism wasn’t separated from conversion as it is today… unfortunately it does look more like cohabitation rather than a marriage 😛 But then, that’s where the analogy fails….

Point is, baptism is the symbol of our life uniting with Christ, and the Lord’s Supper is our continual sustenance for that life.

PS – it sounds like I know what I’m talking about. I don’t 😛 Happy to give you resources of others who actually do.
